Mark Patterson is co-founder and Managing Director of Calypso Energy LLC, Mr. Patterson has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry throughout the Americas. During his 13 years with Maxus Energy Corporation and its predecessor company Diamond Shamrock, he occupied positions of increasing responsibility including US Offshore Exploration Manager, Exploration & Development Manager for North America, and General Manager for Maxus Bolivia, Inc. In the United States alone, Mr. Patterson and his exploration teams are credited with the discovery of more than 75 million barrels of oil and 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

Between 1993 and 2003, Mr. Patterson turned his attention towards the international energy sector, where he rose to become CEO of Compañía General de Combustibles (CGC), one of Latin America’s largest independent oil and gas companies with over $620 MM in upstream and midstream assets. Under his direction, CGC generated record earnings and increased its net worth by more than 70%. Prior to joining CGC, he was Division Manager for Argentina’s YPF in charge of 90,000 boed of domestic production. Mr. Patterson has participated in the successful completion of over $500 million in energy-related transactions and arranged financing for an additional $120 million.

Mr. Patterson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Houston Baptist University. He is a member of the Council of Energy Advisors, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Mr. Patterson has served as Director for several energy companies and industry associations including Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN), GasAndes, the Interamerican Chamber of Commerce, the Bolivia Chamber of Hydrocarbons, the Argentine Venezuelan Chamber of Commerce, and the Argentine Chamber of the Petroleum Industry. He was a delegate to the 1998 World Energy Council, and was recognized for excellence in management by the Dallas Business Journal.

In addition to his professional interests, Mr. Patterson is an accomplished recording artist and former member of the National Academy of Songwriters. He is an active member of the philanthropic community and supports over 20 Dallas-area charities as a partner and investment committee member of Dallas Social Venture Partners, a non-profit venture capital group promoting children’s welfare across North Texas.
