As Director, Technology Development, Mark is responsible for the research and development of over 50 research initiatives, and to deliver commercial-ready technologies that will add to the net asset value of Cenovus. He contributes to the strategy for each resource play within the portfolio, and contributes to the protection of intellectual property through patents and publishing. Mark’s focus is specifically on maintaining top-level enhanced oil recovery performance in steam to oil ratio (SOR), production, reserves, operating costs and environmental footprint. He is also responsible for ensuring staff have career development plans in place and for developing the Cenovus culture. Mark has over 20 years of mechanical and petroleum engineering experience in such areas as the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB), California basins and the Williston Basin, involving most aspects of exploration and production. He worked for a number of years at Cenovus’s predecessor company where a key project was to manage the Vapex Pilot Economics for steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and PARS in the Thermal Recovery Business Unit.
